“Wisdom to Carry”

By: Forrest Rivers

brown and green tree trunk

The drama of life will consume you

If your mind is focused everywhere but here

And everywhere but now….

The wise don’t run and cower

Under a canopy of self-delusion

They embrace the impermanent tides

Of suffering and joy like trees

Who cling not to the sun and rain….

The time arrives in everyone’s life

When all must surrender

To the winds of change and fear not

The steady march of father time….

Death, as we will find

Is our humble teacher

And trusted guide

To the world of the great unknown

To the word beyond our minds….

Turn within and decide

To live without ego and pride

Turn within and see

That the bliss of being free

Abides in the stillness of nature.

“The Gift of Every Step”

By: Forrest Rivers

person wearing green jacket standing on cliff facing mountain

            My mind is racing

As a preoccupation with today’s worries consumes me

My heart pounds harder and my chest feels heavy as lead,

I inhale a long deep breath and then exhale

            My heart’s pounding rhythms subside

And my chest begins to loosen,

Remembering that God is this moment

I acknowledge the majestic forest I walk through

            The forest acknowledges me back–

With a thick blanket of mountain mist,

            My vision clouded

I rely on intuitive sense to guide me along the steps

That my faithful feet know all too well,

            Climbing higher still

I grow inspired as the top draws near,

            With every step

I feel the illusion of separation start to dissolve

As I chart my path back to the Eternal One,

Arriving at the mountain top I discover:

I AM and I HAVE BECOME.

“The Great Blue Hills of God”

By: Forrest Rivers

silhouette of mountain under white and yellow sky

One Day,

The Great Blue Hills of God

Decided to speak

And this is what they said:

“Be present as you climb my hallowed peaks

Be still as you bathe in my breathtaking waterfalls

And be grateful as you stroll through my ancient forests

But most important….

Please remember to listen to the wisdom

And feel the boundless love

That emanates through these sacred mountains….

For no church built by the hands of man

Can ever compare

To my altar of divine worship.”

“A Faithful Remembrance”

By: Forrest Rivers

Child of the night

I hear your cries

I hear your screams

And I feel your suffering

But keep your heart open

And head up wise one

For the incantations that you chant

Faithfully to yourself

Shall be answered one-hundred fold….

Always remember

Just like the seasons

You have danced this dance

And sung your soul’s heavenly chorus

Before….

Melancholy nights

Can not deter your spirit

From journeying to the light

That illuminates the divine within all.

“Believe in yourself”

By: Forrest Rivers

brown trees beside river during daytime

Believe in yourself

And never doubt

The tides that pull you out

And back to shore again….

 You are simply divine

A miracle

And a strand of cosmic awareness

Blowing in the wind

To enchant all

Who are blessed to cross your path….

So, always remember your self-worth

And reach for the stars

For your hopes and dreams

Will surely come true.
